In 1961, Time-Life was founded as the book division of Time Inc. The name, Time-Life, came from the two magazines that were the cornerstone of Time Inc., Life and Time.

Right from the start, the Time-Life book collection was well received and created a wealth of success for the company. It wasn’t long before Time-Life began offering music with their book collection. Originally packaged in box sets, two to five records were included with the books. In 1990, to keep up with the times, Time-Life switched from vinyl to CDs.
